Welcome to Emerge Productions.
Where it all began
Emerge Productions was born out of an idea by Amanda Sutherland the owner and principal of both Just Imagine Youth Drama School and Emerge Productions.
In 2020 Amanda saw an opportunity to challenge older students to exceed their own expectations of their skills. With this simple premise, Just Imagine commissioned an original work ‘Lotus’ written and directed by Local Tasmanian Playwright Imogen Kalisch.
Within 12 weeks from Imogen starting writing, Lotus had its opening night – in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Lotus was one of the first shows to get back to the theatre in October of 2020. Everyone who saw it was stunned at the quality of the local writing, acting, and lighting talent.
With the success of this program, Amanda formed Emerge Productions to further work on this concept of supporting young and emerging Tasmanian Talent.
Emerge Production’s whole ethos is built on support for both new and more experienced artists alike. It is about working together to create something amazing. Amanda strongly believes that with the right support anyone can not only perform but perform at a high standard.
Where to now?
Amanda and the Team at Emerge continue to develop shows that encourage new and existing artists to work together. This will take many forms and include artists who work both on stage and behind the scenes.
We are continuing to develop opportunities for directed workshops with industry experts. We have a number of classes available in different skill sets as well as casual Theatre Sports events most weekends.
Emerge also offers support for performers with services such as Self-Taping for Auditions, an Actors’ Space where actors can come together to network and support each other.
Emerge Productions aims to host 2 Live Theatre Productions per year and to develop a number of short films for Film Festival Entry. We are open to talking about your projects. Simply send us an email at emergeproductionslaunceston.com.au with your request and we will be happy to sit down and have a conversation with you.
