The Real Inspector Hound
In October of 2021, The Northern Launceston Football Club located at UTAS Stadium hosted The Real Inspector Hound. Greeting Audiences at the main gain gates Inspector Hound and pompous critic Moon leads the audience upstairs to Muldoon Manor.
On arrival at Muldoon Manor, Mrs Drudge greeted the Audience and guided them to the bar before returning to her cleaning duties. Soon after Lady Muldoon, welcomed guests to her parlour before returning to the bar and finding Mrs Drudge was stealing alcohol.
Chaos further ensued when Magnus Muldoon, the wheelchair-bound half-brother of Lord Muldoon escaped from his room. Magnus being the rather rude and self-absorbed type, made sure everyone knew he was waiting for the show to start.
The audience is taken on a journey through the absurd with the help of pretentious critics providing a running commentary of the play they are watching. All while munching chocolate and complaining bitterly about their professional rivals and ogling the attractive actresses.
This was a wonderful experience for the cast and audiences alike with many coming back to see the show multiple times during its run.
The Real Inspector Hound by Tony and Academy award-winning playwright Tom Stoppard crafted a witty, surreal, and compelling tale. He shows our identity is as changeable as a moustache or a pair of boots, using the devices of a tiered whodunnit. Identity can be the cover for a masterful revenge plot, especially when trained on the professional members of the audience.
The Real Inspector Hound is a parody of the stereotypical parlour mystery in the style of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap.
